Did you know that there is a food holiday at least every other day of the year? It’s true, although some of the days are more likely to be celebrated than others. Take today for instance; it’s National Apple Pie Day which is definitely something to celebrate! It’s also National Crouton Day. I like croutons on my salads, but I wouldn’t throw a party over it.

Let’s get back to Apple Pie. Did you know that apple pie can be traced back to the Middle Ages, with a cookbook reference from the year 1514? The originally documented recipe is for a dish called Appletaerten and was in a Dutch cookbook. The recipe listed the following ingredients: traditional pie crust, sliced soft, seedless apples, and sugar. Additionally, a variety of spices were added to the mixture that included, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, mace and clove. All this was cooked in a Dutch oven to create a delicious dessert.

There is an even earlier English version of Apple Pie that dates back to the age of Chaucer, approximately 1343 to 1450. This recipe included the possible addition of figs, raisins and pears along with the apple and spice mixture. Other versions from different countries include a Swedish adaptation which is more like an apple crumble with breadcrumbs and oats instead of a pastry crust. This version is typically served ala mode or paired with custard. The French serve their apple pie upside-down as a tarte tatin. In France, they also caramelize their apples which adds a whole new level of flavor to the pie. And if you are a fan of cheddar cheese on your apple pie, a tradition found in the American northwest and upper Midwest, you can thank the French for this pairing. Apple pie made its way to America in the 17th century. Interestingly enough, apple trees are not native to North or South America but were also brought over from Europe.

And here we are in 2021, where the phrase “as American as Apple pie” still resonates and gives us reason to celebrate. And there’s no better method to carry your apple pie ala mode than in a MyGo Container™. As it turns out, the MyGo-1006, designed for pizza slices, also perfectly accommodates a tasty slice of apple pie. In fact, you can even warm your pie up when it’s in a MyGo Container™ by popping it into the microwave for a minute or so. If you’ve dished out your pie ala mode but are running late and your ice cream melts up a bit, no worries because the MyGo Container™ gasketed lid seals in liquids for mess free transport. Your pie will still taste delicious even if the ice cream is a bit melty. Looking for a good way to carry a full sized 8” pie? You can use the MyGo-1002 large single compartment container, with this MyGo Container™ you can safely transport the entire uncut pie. In fact, if you are heading to a large function bringing several apple pies, you can place your pies in these containers and stack them up with ease for easy, safe and mess-free transport. So Happy National Apple Pie Day! We hope you get to enjoy a slice.
