Outdoor dining has been a popular way for many foodservice establishments to open up safely and it’s a great opportunity to examine your menu to allow for changes in your offering that might be a draw for new customers. One way to take advantage of outdoor dining is to add a grilling station to your operation that promotes outdoor cooking. You can prepare a wide variety of foods on an outdoor grill from steaks to burgers and poultry to sausages. You can also grill vegetables and fruits and give them a different flavor than they have when steamed, baked or pan cooked.

If a grilling station is something that you would only have in the warmer weather months, then a portable grill is most likely your best option. When it’s not in use, a portable grill can be stored away and this will help extend the life of your equipment investment. Portable grills are also on casters, allowing them to be easily moved for storage or transport if you choose to have an event that is off premise. Charcoal grills are often popular for bar-b-ques or when you want to provide a rich smoky flavor to your meats. You can also find many options for portable gas grills that run on liquid propane. You may also want to consider a portable smoker unit which can be used for slow roasting meats, poultry or game to add a uniquely flavorful quality.

For foodservice establishments that want to add an outdoor grilling station as a permanent part of their facility, a built in grill is an excellent choice. Often a grilling station is part of a patio or deck area and can provide additional space to your operation. One great benefit of a built in grill option is to power this grill with natural gas that is tied to the building. This is a highly cost effective fuel option. You can also choose a grill that is powered with liquid propane or charcoal. Another advantage of a built in grill is that they can have higher power capabilities that a portable grill. When selecting any built in commercial cooking equipment, be sure to look at the construction and materials. Stainless steel is common and a good choice. If you’re looking to add even more variety to your menu offering, a rotisserie attachment or a smoker box will give you even more cooking options.

Creating an outdoor grilling station is a great way to expand your menu and can be a great way to reach out to potential new customers.
