Chafing Dishes are essential to serving hot foods at buffets or catering events. Knowing how to properly utilize chafing dishes can go a long way, and luckily using a chafing dish is very easy. Today we will go over everything you need to know about Chafing Dishes

    WHAT IS A CHAFING DISH?

Chafing dishes are an affordable, portable, and convenient way of heating foods for buffets. A Chafing dish is operated using small, portable containers of fuel that burn for up to six hours at a time. All chafers are made up of three main components; a frame, a water pan and a lid. It is important to remember that chafers are not intended to be used to cook foods, they are meant to keep foods hot for an extended period of time.

HOW TO USE A CHAFING DISH

Using a chafing dish is pretty straightforward. You will want to start by placing the food and water pans over the chafing dish stand. Next, fill the water pan with hot water, followed by adding burner fuel. Once this has been done, you are good to light the burners and serve. It is important to always make sure that the contents are heated up to the appropriate temperature before placing into the chafing dish, this ensures that the foods will remain at the right serving temperature.

    TYPES OF CHAFING DISHES

Chafing dishes come in a variety of designs that let you serve everything from meat or veggies to soups and stews. There are full-size and half-size rectangular dishes, which are the most common shape for chafing dishes. Half-size dishes accommodate 4 to 5 quarts, whereas full-size chafing dishes can hold up to 8-9 quarts of product. Chafing dishes can also be round in shape, this style is typically shallow and perfect for holding side dishes and sauces. Deeper, round chafing dishes are also available and are ideal for holding and serving soups and stews.
