The best way to keep any refrigeration equipment running efficiently is to ensure that the condenser is free from dirt and grime. When the condenser coils are clogged with dirt and dust, they are not able to release heat efficiently so that your compressor works harder and longer than it is designed to run. When this occurs, your equipment is using more energy and it can shorten the life of your refrigeration equipment. Cleaning the condenser on your refrigerated equipment on a routine basis once a month can remedy this issue. Here are six easy steps to keep your refrigeration equipment running efficiently.
1. Start by disconnecting the electrical power to the refrigerated unit.
2. Remove the louvered grill that covers the condensing unit.
3. With a stiff brush and vacuum, you can gently remove dirt, dust and other debris from the finned condenser coil.
4. If there is significant build-up of dirt and dust, consider using compressed air to blow out the condenser and remove the excessive build-up.
5. Once you have the condenser coil fully cleaned, you are ready to replace the louvered grill that protects the unit.
6. With the cleaning complete, you can reconnect the electrical power to the refrigeration unit.
Whether you have a reach-in refrigerator, undercounter freezer, sandwich/salad prep table, pizza prep table or chef base, keeping the condenser unit clean will keep your equipment running more efficiently and extend the life of your refrigeration equipment.
